    Top Aces completes busy Winter season

    Top Aces completed a successful 2012 Winter deployment season by providing Contracted Airborne Training Services for the Canadian Military in various southern locations.  Proving our experience below the border this winter resulted in safe and efficient training for Fighter Weapons Instructor Students, Fighter Pilot Students, Forward Air Controller Students, and Navy Task Group Exercise Sailors. Pictured here by Corporal Pierre Habib are four of Top Aces’ Alpha Jets led by a Canadian CF-18 Hornet over Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas during exercise Chum Ex. This is an annual joint International exercise lead by the USAF’s 93rd Sqn. at Homestead Air Reserve Base.

    A new milestone at Top Aces

    Congratulations go out to Dave "Dag" Cameron upon hitting the 2000 hour milestone in the Alpha Jet.  Dag is a Fighter Weapons Graduate and flew the CF-18 prior to the Alpha Jet.

    Top Aces’ Standing Offers Extended to 2013

    Top Aces, a wholly owned subsidiary of Discovery Air, announced today that its Interim Contracted Airborne Training Services (ICATS) Standing Offer arrangements have been extended by the Government of Canada for a 12 month period, taking the service delivery to June 2013.

    Top Aces completes mission in Burlington, Vermont

    Top Aces completed a mission July 18th – 22nd in Burlington, Vermont where our Alpha Jets flew as part of a Large Force Exercise (LFE) in support of 425 Sqn CF18s alongside United States Air National Guard F16s, F15s, C21s and United States Navy F/A18 Super Hornets. All missions were large package Offensive Counter Air scenarios that included Electronic Warfare (EW) support from 414 Sqn Electronic Warfare Officers flying on every sortie.

    Top Aces takes part in Trident Fury

    Top Aces was very busy in May – taking part in Exercise Trident Fury, a two week multinational exercise off the coast of British Columbia, aimed at advancing Canada’s ability to respond to offshore threats and unlawful acts from within a coalition environment.

    Extension of Top Aces Standing Offers

    Discovery Air Inc. announced that the Interim Contracted Airborne Training Services (ICATS) standing offers have been extended (Type 1 and Type 2) by the Government of Canada to June 2012 with a one-year option to June 2013.

    ... that Brad “Bear” Dolan received the Commanding Officer’s (CO) coin from the CO of 1 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery LCol Tim Young in appreciation for the work Top Aces completed in Shilo, MB as part of Forward Air Controller (FAC) Training? Between missions, Bear met the FACs on the ground and fortunately the Army lent him a coat – it was -23C with the wind to 28kts. They expressed their appreciation and high regard for the training.

    ... that Top Aces is now able to offer rear seat training flights to Forward Air Controllers (FAC)? On November 29, 2010, pilot Brad "Bear" Dolan and Captain Manu Pelletier-Bedard landed in Quebec City. This is a great training opportunity and certainly brings a very different perspective to the FACs as they can see what the pilot sees as the aircraft flys to the controlled airspace. Major Andre "Stuka" Lessard completed the first flight earlier that day.

    ... that 3 Top Aces pilots, Shawn "Burner" Byrne, Jeff "Beck" Beckett and Steve "Bunt" Nierlich have over 3000 hours of flying time in the F-18 Hornet? Bunt was the only one to get all of his hours on the CF-18, both Burner and Beck completed exchange tours with the US.
